Troubleshooting
The things that actually go wrong, and what to do about each.
Check the address first
Most failures are a mistyped address. It has no trailing slash and no spaces — copy it rather than retyping it.
https://api.heytheo.io/mcp/user“This request has expired”
A connection request is only good for a few minutes, and it is spent the moment you decide. Start again from the AI app — it will send you a fresh one. If you had the page open for a while before pressing Allow, that is why.
I landed on the HeyTheo sign-in screen, with no Allow button
You opened the link on a phone with the HeyTheo app installed, and the phone handed the link to the app instead of the browser. Connect from a computer. Once connected, you can use the AI app anywhere, including your phone.
My app has no option to add a connector
Custom connectors are a paid feature in several AI apps. Check whether your plan on their side includes them — this is between you and them, and has nothing to do with your HeyTheo plan.
My editor rejects the config I pasted
Editors disagree about the setting name — one wants url, another serverUrl, another httpUrl, and VS Code puts it under servers rather than mcpServers. Check your editor's own MCP documentation, linked from its page under Set up your app. The address never changes.
It connected, but the AI says it cannot see my data
Make sure you finished the sign-in — some apps add the connector first and only ask you to authenticate when you first use it. Then check Settings → Connected apps in HeyTheo: if the app is not listed there, the approval never completed.
“Connected apps” is missing from my Settings, or says “Not available yet”
Your HeyTheo app is older than the feature, or newer than the server it is talking to. Update the app. Connecting still works in the meantime; you just cannot review connections from that device yet.
An alert the AI set has not fired
An alert created through an AI app is an ordinary HeyTheo alert and behaves exactly like one you made yourself — so the usual reasons apply. Ask Theo in the app, which can see the alert's condition and tell you what it is waiting for.
Still stuck
Email support@heytheo.io and say which app you are connecting and what you see. If you can, include the exact wording of any message — it tells us which step failed.
You can also read Access and privacy if your question is about what a connected app can reach.
